What is a Paint Correction?

Paint correction is an auto detailing procedure that removes scratches, swirl marks, and other imperfections on the paint of the car, It also makes the color pops and shine again. It does this by using specialized machines and polishing compounds to slowly remove microscopic layers of clear coat until the surface is smooth again.

Any car that has visible imperfections in the paint, such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, or water spots, can benefit from paint correction. What is the procedure for doing a paint correction?

Paint correction is a process that involves several steps to restore and enhance the appearance of the car.

Here's a breakdown of the process.

  1. Wash the car: The first step is to thoroughly wash the car to remove any dirt, grime, and contaminants from the paint surface.

  2. Paint decontamination: Next, a clay bar or a chemical decontamination process is used to remove embedded contaminants like tar, tree sap, or industrial fallout that cannot be removed by washing alone.

  3. Paint inspection: The car's paint is carefully inspected under proper lighting to identify imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, or holograms. We also measure the thickness of the clear coat before polishing.

  4. Machine polishing: Using a machine polisher and appropriate polishing compounds, we work on each panel to remove or reduce imperfections depending on the project.

  5. Wash the car: We wash the car again to remove polish dust and compound residues from the paint.

  6. Protection: Once the paint correction is completed, the car is washed and dried, and a protective layer such as a ceramic coating or paint sealant can be applied to provide long-lasting protection against UV rays, and environmental contaminants, and enhance the shine.

It's important to note that paint correction is a highly skilled process that requires expertise, proper tools, and attention to detail. It is often performed by professional detailers who have the necessary experience and knowledge to achieve the best results while preserving the integrity of the paint.
